Inauguration of Tourism Police Formation and Office on Caye Caulker

On Wednesday, August 24, 2011  at 10:00 am, an Inauguration Ceremony for the induction of the Tourism Police Unit of the Belize Tourism Board was held on Avenida Hicaco (in front of Habanero’s Restaurant) and also in front of where the Tourism Police Office will be located.

Present were stakeholders in the Tourism Industry, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr. – Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture, Ms. Seleni Matus, Belize Tourism Board Director, Mr. James Scott, President of the Belize Tourism Industry Association, Officer-in-Charge of the Tourism Police Unit – Mr. Andrew Longsworth, Officer-in-Charge of the Caye Caulker Police Formation – Sgt. Wade, Cpl. Sharmane Young – Senior TPU Officer in Charge of San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker, Members of the Belize Tourism Industry Association – Caye Caulker Chapter – Antonio Aguilar and Javier Novelo as well as Members of the Belize Hotel Association, Alberto Villanueva Jr. – Caye Caulker Village Council Chairman and other invited guests/villagers.

The Belize Tourism Board increased the number of officers from three to five for effective patrolling in collaboration with the Officers posted on the Caye Caulker Police Formation.  Two bicycles and one motor-bike was handed over to the Tourism Police Unit for their use in the effectiveness in curbing crime on the island; new handheld radios will also be handed over at a later date for effective communication purposes.

The community welcomes this much needed initiative for the safety and security for all on our beloved Caye Caulker, La Isla Carinosa.

    Security is everyone’s responsibility. Doing nothing is like allowing anything to happen. I’d love to see a community finally stand up and take control for their own safety and security…..this will also benefit our visitors….Keep it up Caye Caulker!!!!!!!!
