We, the Caye Caulker Volleyball Association) have decided to begin with a head start on the 2012 Beach Volleyball Calendar by having our first Local League. The Caye Caulker “King of the Beach Tournament” MVP’s league. The Tournament is intended to boost the level of playing for all players competing and to get them prepared for the upcomming National and International Events. The Tournament started on Wed., Feb 1st, 2012 and is scheduled to be played for 10 weeks. Games are scheduled to be played on Wednesday and Friday evening starting at 6:30 pm. Every night there will 9 to 12 matches going up to 9:30 pm.
The game is sort of complicated but will try to explain. There are a total of 8 players competing in the 2 on 2 beach League. For a King of the Beach competionion, each player must proove himself by being the MVP (Most Valuable Player), meaning that he is the most efficent and compatible player that can play with any partner.
Each Player MUST play with all other players and against all other players in a 2 against 2 game, therefore each player will against the same 2 opponents but never with the same partner. Also “vice versa” each player will play with the same partner but never against the same 2 opponents.
So for an eg. Tico and Migs will play against Ronnie and Chico, Ronnie and Luis, Ronnie and Errol and then against Chico and Luis, Chico and Errol , and so on until they have played against all possible players, then it will Change to Tico and Ronnie against Migs and Chico, Migs and Luis and so on.
Until all possible games have been played and each player have played with and against all players.
The winnings will be determined by your game score. Your score will be your your points minus your opponets points. and the person with the most positive points will be the KING of the BEACH! (if i loose 18 and my opponent wins 21, my point for that game will be 18-21= -3)
Players competing are: Carlos “Tico” Requena, Miguel “Migs” Neal, Juan “Chico” Marin, Ronnie Sosa, Luis Requena, Errol Patt, Henry Lopez, and Armando Requena
This format was decided because there are only 8 competitive players on the island adding up to 4 teams and 4 teams will not make a long tournament, this is a much more friendly and performance building tournament.
Players are competing for bragging rights and Cash Prizes of $300 1st place, $150 2nd place, and $100 3rd place. Gathered from the CCVA by registration.
In total there will be a 210 games played, and each player will be playing a WHOPPING 105 games TOTAL!
Editor’s Note: So, there you have it folks, if you’re looking for somewhere to go, please come on out and give your support to our local boys who are keeping the beach volleyball spirit alive on Caye Caulker!!
